File extension WRI refers to Windows Write. This is the word processor that was provided by Microsoft Corporation, together with the various versions of the Windows applications. This word processor is therefore provided with Microsoft Windows 1.0, Microsoft Windows 2.0 and also with the series Windows 3.x. WRI files were made to work with the earlier versions of Windows write only programs. Since their introduction, there have been a few updates of the WRI files so that to date they are still found comparable to the early versions of MacWrite.
